EQUIP

To equip is to supply with the necessary items for a particular purpose. At Immanuel, our EQUIP class aims to prepare the Immanuel Church body to be a believer in Christ living to make the real Jesus known in Birmingham and beyond. EQUIP classes take place before our Sunday morning worship gathering upstairs at 9:15 a.m.

SMALL THINGS: THE WHAT AND WHY OF IMMANUEL RHYTHMS

Teacher: Dr. Art Carden

Every week for the next seven weeks, we are going to study a different aspect of Immanuel Church’s spiritual rhythms and practices. Each week, we will see how our rhythms connect to the sermon series on 1 and 2 Samuel we just finished and the sermon series on Luke we just started. We will have a few questions for reflection and discussion, and we encourage you to do a bit of journaling about these before and after we come together. The Bible exhorts us to “be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” We can also speak to God with these: as Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes, “In the Psalter we learn to pray on the basis of Christ’s prayer. The Psalter is the great school of prayer.” Each week also includes a Psalm as well as the text of and a link to a recording of a hymn that speaks to that week’s subject. May they quench the thirst and satisfy the hunger you didn’t know you had.
