Family Worship Guide March 13-18

Day 1

Theme
Riches Cannot Buy You Satisfaction

Scripture
Philippians 3:7-11

Discussion
Sin is looking to anything else but God to satisfy us in the way only God can satisfy us. What things that world offers, maybe even good things, do we look to to find satisfaction and security? How have you seen these things come up short?

For parents: this would be a great opportunity to talk to your kids about how all of the things they love, are good things but they will one day go away and God will be the only thing that lasts. Help them understand that their relationship with God is more important than any worldly earthly comfort.

Prayer
God we praise you for your goodness. We praise you because you satisfy us. We confess putting our hope in other things besides you. Help us to believe that you are enough for us. Help us to live like we believe that. Amen

Day 2

Theme
Religion Cannot Earn You Eternal Life

Scripture
Isaiah 1:10-17

Discussion
How often do we catch ourselves just going through the motions during the week? We may go through our CBR hour lab reading and we may gather with our GC and attend worship on Sunday but our hearts are not in it. We aren't really paying attention... we forget that Jesus is what really makes spiritual disciplines worth it. We forget that when we read the bible and pray to God, we are literally conversing with the God of the universe. Which spiritual discipline do you really need to press into during this season of Lent?

For parents: Ask your kids if they know why we do the things we do as believers. Walk your kids through the purpose of spiritual disciplines.
Prayer: we pray to God to praise him, to repent of sin, to thank him for salvation in Jesus and to ask him to work in our lives and in the world.
Scripture reading: we read the bible because it is God's words to us; the primary way God communicates to us; our standard for all truth and how to live.
Corporate worship: we gather together for worship to praise Jesus and refocus ourselves on the truth of the gospel together as a family

Prayer
God we thank you for the gift of your word. Thank you for speaking to us and communicating your love for us in the bible. Thank you for using it to point us to Jesus. Help us be genuine in our efforts to pray and read the bible. Convict us when we just go through the motions. Thank you for Jesus who makes spiritual disciplines worth it. Amen.

Day 3

Theme
Repentance Leads to a Better Reward

Scripture
Isaiah 1:18-19

Discussion
Repentance is turning away from our sins, forsaking them and turning to Jesus and putting the hope we placed in other things, in Jesus alone. What do we need to repent of today?

For parents:
This is a pretty simple definition for repentance. Talk about the idea of repentance as a daily habit. You spend the most time with your children so you know how they should be repenting. Lead them to those daily sin struggles and discuss repenting from them.

Prayer
God you are holy and we know that we are sinful. We know that you set the standard of perfection and we can not measure up. We repent of our sin and the things we place our hope in other than you. Help us to repent daily so that we can follow you daily. Thank you for Jesus who saves us from our sin! Amen.
