Day 1

Theme
Jesus is astonishing.

Scripture
Hebrews 1:3-5

Discussion
Pastor Andy made it clear that the real Jesus is un-ignorable. He is astounding and when you meet him, he is unmistakable. Have you experienced the Jesus who astounds? What has Jesus done in your life that has left you amazed?

Our culture cherishes a picture of Jesus as tame, predictable and frankly boring. The gospels present a very different picture of Jesus. They show us a Jesus who is astonishing, dumbfounding, thrilling.  When was the last time your heart was thrilled by Jesus?

We regularly use the phrase "look to Jesus." Why is it so important to think on Jesus? Why must we continue to preach the gospel to ourselves every day? How does meditating on these things actually affect the way we live?

Prayer
Pray through Psalm 72:17-19

Day 2

Theme
Jesus is satisfying.

Scripture
Luke 15:11-32

Discussion
"We are all to often convinced by and give in to what some theologians have called "lovers less wild" than Jesus, the great lover of our souls." What are the things we often turn to other than Jesus to satisfy us? What, practically, do we believe is more soul thrilling than Jesus?

Take a couple of the things you came up with and talk through how Jesus actually satisfies us in a way that those things can not. How do those things fail us?

What are some practical ways that we can daily preach the gospel to ourselves; to remind ourselves that Jesus really does satisfy our hearts?

Prayer
Pray through Psalm 90:14-17

Day 3

Theme
Jesus is Lord.

Scripture
Philippians 2:9-11

Discussion
Culturally speaking, we are familiar with Jesus. We are comfortable with Jesus. It is easy for us to subtly  remove him from his place as Lord over our lives. How does this work itself out in the midst of daily life? How do we tend to dismiss the Lordship of Jesus?

When we snub Jesus authority over our lives, when we fail to believe in him, how are we limiting the ways he can work in our hearts and in our lives?

It's interesting to note that the things we hold back from the kingship of Jesus are often the things we abuse to try to find our satisfaction. What area's of your life are you not allowing Jesus to rule over? Are they some of the same things you listed on day 2? Confess these things give them to Jesus.

Prayer
Pray through Psalm 93
