Hearts are changed when the word is preached.
2 Corinthians 5:16-21
Do you think that you can simply "love people into the kingdom"? What's the problem with this idea?
Can you clearly articulate the gospel? (additional reading)
How can you practice speaking gospel truths to one another in the midst of every day life?
We pray asking that God would give us boldness when we interact with unbelievers to speak the gospel and share the good news. We ask that God would give us a burden for the lost. We pray that the Spirit would open our eyes to opportunities to share the gospel.

Hearts are changed when the word penetrates.
When you read the word, do you view it simply as information to process or do you value it as the primary way that God speaks to you and changes your heart?
The passage in Hebrews uses almost violent language to describe the affect the word can have our hearts. Think about and discuss times when reading the word has moved beyond the surface and truly convicted and/or encouraged you.
What place does prayer have in relation to scripture reading?
We pray thanking God for the gift of his word. We recognize it's centrality to our life of faith. We confess it's authority. We ask that God would give us a desire to read his word, to value it as the "bread of life", that which will sustain us. We ask that the Spirit would illuminate the word to our minds and apply it to our hearts.

Hearts are changed when the word perseveres and
produces lasting fruit.
According to the passage, what are some of the changes we should see in ourselves over time as the word "dwells in our hearts"?
Pastor Andy made the statement that "Either our lusts will choke out our faith or true faith will choke out our lusts". What sins do you struggle with on a regular basis that tend to stifle your faith?
The passage instructs us to "teach and admonish one another" and "sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs" together. What role does community play in the way the word shapes us and and produces fruit in our lives?
We pray thanking God that he has done the work of salvation for us, giving us new hearts and sealing them with the Spirit. We pray that he would continue to do the work of sanctification in us through the word and by the power of the Spirit. We pray for steadfast faith that perseveres.
