Family Worship Guide April 4th-9th

At Immanuel, we think it is really good for families to read the bible together, pray together, even sing together. To that end, we're going to start publishing some content–here on the blog–that follows after the most recent sermon preached at our gathering, aiding families in (re)connecting to the main themes of what was preached throughout the week. We want to help you unpack and reinforce the truths of God's word together. This guide can also be used to help facilitate discussions at Gospel Community hangouts or in DNA groups. For simplicity's sake, we're calling this our "family worship guide," and each week it will be posted here on the blog.

Here is this weeks guide:

Day 1

Theme
Jesus has fulfilled the law and we can find true rest in him.

Scripture Reading
Ephesians 2:1-10

Discussion
How can we find rest in Jesus day in and day out?

Do we miss the heart of God by attempting to follow all the rules?

When we sin, do we find ourselves turning to God in repentance or thinking to ourselves how we can do better?

Prayer Focus
We praise God that Jesus has fulfilled the law and through the cross, has given us his righteousness! We repent of trying to earn our right standing and ask that the Spirit would give us true rest in the work of Jesus.

Day 2

Theme
The gospel is good news and it is worth celebrating.

Scripture Reading
Psalm 100

Discussion
Do you find joy in the good news of the gospel? If not, what aspect of the gospel might you be failing to believe?

How do we celebrate the gospel in our homes?

How do we celebrate the gospel in our community?

Prayer Focus
We pray, thanking God for his goodness and mercy; for the grace of the gospel that is such good news to us! We pray that the Spirit would make our hearts glad and as we seek to celebrate the gospel, that others would see and hear what Jesus has done for us.

Song

Day 3

Theme
We strive for holiness, not so that we can be redeemed, but because Jesus has redeemed us for Kingdom work.

Scripture Reading
1 Peter 2:1-12

Discussion
Is your faith about yourself and how good you can be or is it about Jesus, how good he is, and his mission?

How might God want to use our family to advance the Kingdom?

Prayer Focus
We pray that the Spirit would convict us of our sin and point our hearts to the cross where our sin has been dealt with! We pray for God to burden our hearts for the lost and to give us a passion for his mission, to see the gospel transform lives for the Glory of God.
